In 1979 there were only three Italian Restaurants in Fort Myers; one of those being LaMotta’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria. We have been in business for 33 years now. Throughout these many years we have witnessed many changes in the area as far as restaurants, people, and stores that have come and gone. In our shopping center alone, the view from our front windows has changed from a Publix to now Big Lot’s. Amongst these changes is also the economy. We started as a family owned business with little competition in the area. Today we are surrounded with various restaurants, which makes for a fierce competitive market. In the past customers were prevalent and little advertisement was necessary. “Word of mouth” was always the best form of advertising your restaurant or business. Now being one of the many restaurants in the area, it is imperative to advertise in all venues.
In recent years, we have become involved in supporting charitable events such as the Harry Chapin Food Bank in which we collected canned goods, donated soup for the “Empty Bowls” event, and donated a percentage of proceeds for “Dine Out for Hunger”. Also, we have joined with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer in which we donated a percentage of one night’s profits. We also participated in the “Slice of Hope” breast cancer event, held at our restaurant. We enjoy giving back to the community and helping such needed foundations.
Today, we our proud to say that we are one of the few, remaining, family-owned Italian restaurants in Lee County. We pride ourselves on making fresh food for our customers. By making every entrée to order, we do not sacrifice quality or quantity. Some menu items have changed throughout the years, but that goes along with the changing demands of customers. Since the “NO SMOKING” in restaurants law took effect, we have adapted by adding outside seating to help accommodate our customers. We have also found the outdoor seating useful for patrons who bring their dogs.
Over the years we have had many positive reviews from customers and food critics such as Jean Lebeuf in which we earned 3 ½ stars. With the ever-changing technology, customers have now been able to write these reviews via the internet. The best review however, is when we see the smiles on our customers’ faces after they have enjoyed a meal at our restaurant. Times may have changed, but our quality and devotion to our customers has not.
